Development of promising business areas remains one of the ARMZ Holding’s priority goals. The ore-mining division has been designated as the main point of responsibility for satisfying the industry’s and the Russian Federation’s demand for uranium and other strategically important metals. In the context of the declared strategic goal of increasing the revenue from non-uranium sources to 30% by 2030, the development of the division’s business areas related to mining of raw materials and and manufacturing various types of products is going in two directions:
- Expanding the inventory of extracted metals: rare, rare earth, precious metals and their alloys;
- Increasing the conversion extent of the extracted raw materials to include metals and alloys, as well as other hi tech products further down the line.
The plans are to develop both those directions in cooperation with the allied divisions of the Rosatom State Corporation, and in so doing, to open the new development venues for ARMZ itself.Fig. Product Portfolio of Existing and Emerging Businesses of JSC Atomredmetzoloto
Expanding production portfolio is not feasible without expanding the geographical distribution of the new businesses. At present, Atomredmetzoloto, JSC is implementing several projects in various regions of Russia, independently as well as in cooperation with its partners. In the region traditional for Atomredmetzoloto, JSC’s operations, i.e. the Trans-Baikal Territory, the transition from extraction to production of high-heating (sized) coal allowed the Holding to expand its client portfolio, reprocessing industrial waste from pyrite cynders helps solving environmental issues, restarting lithium concentrate extraction at the Zavitinskoye field provides raw materials for new vectors of the domestic business. New products have been launched into production due to increasing the conversion rate of the raw minerals: scandium oxide and fluoride, and prospectively, alumino-scandium alloys, in the Kurgan Region and in the Urals. A number of new ambitious projects are being developed in cooperation with our partners from non-uranium industries on the Novaya Zemlya island (the Pavlovskoye lead-zinc concentrates extraction project), in the Tomsk Region (titanium-zirconium sands), as well as a silver and gold extraction project at the gold-uranium field in Southern Yakutia.
In the context of developing new types of products, the Ore Mining Division is looking broader at the possible projects related to extraction of other kinds of natural resources, to satisfy the Rosatom State Corporation’s current and prospective needs. In so doing, the Division is giving priority to metals used in the most forward areas of the modern economic development: additive technologies, robotics, energy storage, hyperthermal and renewable energy, etc. Some of those metals, such as scandium, lithium, zirconium, titanium and others, are already being extracted. Also, to maximize the use of our competences in the field of raw material extraction, we are working on the development concepts and hold negotiations with potential consumers and partners from other industries regarding supplies of natural resources (rare earth metals, boron, antimony, niobium, as well as a number of other metals and compounds) to them.
