ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. Continues Implementing Ammonium Polyuranate Additional Processing Project
An ammonium polyuranate deoxidation unit was commissioned at Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union (E.P. Slavsky PIMCU, PJSC) leach plant in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Additional equipment will make it possible to process here the entire volume of the final products of Khiagda, JSC, which produces uranium in the territory of the Republic of Buryatia.
The main «yellow cake» disadvantage is its increased humidity (up to 30%). Reducing humidity to 1.5-2% is very important not only to reduce the logistics costs, but, above all, for the convenience of further processing to obtain high-purity uranium compounds at the enterprises of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation fuel company, TVEL, JSC. «At PIMCU, „yellow cake“ is processed into uranium oxide concentrate, a „pure“ product with minimal moisture. Thereby, we ensure the output of application-specific products of guaranteed high quality in accordance with up-to-date standards,» explains Ivan Kiselev, Director General, E.P. Slavsky PIMCU, PJSC.
«The final product transportation to Krasnokamensk for additional processing is much more profitable than the additional redistribution line construction at our industrial site in the permafrost conditions. The enterprises are geographically close to each other, so the logistics costs are quite small compared to the economic benefit for the entire division,» adds Andrey Gladyshev, Director General, Khiagda, JSC.
The project of Khiagda, JSC ammonium polyuranate additional processing at PIMCU, PJSC has been implemented since 2017. The new deoxidation unit will double the processing volume.
