Alexander Burutin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dalur, JSC, Takes Part at the Elocological Ural Panel Discussion during the UTRO 2018 Forum

UTRO 2018 is the youth educational forum, held in the Kurgan region, joining about 750 young professionals and promising representatives of trained and working youth of the Urals Federal District. The founders of the event are the staff of the Official Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Urals Federal District and regional authorities. The partner of the Forum is Dalur, JSC.

"Being the corporation of knowledge, ROSATOM accumulates the best minds and does everything to ensure the technological leadership. We support the UTRO Forum stimulating young people to achieve high results and, of course, ensuring the continuity of generations. I am sure that the ideas and the desire to work for the benefit of the Motherland will be in demand, including at the enterprises representing the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation," Alexander Burutin said.

Alexander Burutin talked about the methods of uranium mining, as well as the organization of the environmental activities of Dalur aimed at the continuous improvement of the environmental management system, at the discussion panel within the Ecological Ural platform. "Any human activity has a negative impact on the environment, but the activities of Dalur, JSC, have already proved that such an impact can be minimized. It is especially important for every population to ensure environmental and radiation safety. No single incident related to the activities of Dalur, JSC, has been recorded since the opening of the first (Dalmatovskoye) deposit in the Kurgan region in 1979. One of the important components of such success is the use of the method of downhole underground leaching that is safe for all humans and the environment. The policy of ROSATOM is the informational openness, where one of the important tasks is to provide truthful and honest information about its activities to all interested parties," the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dalur, JSC, said.

Talking about the environmental aspects of the development of uranium deposits located within the Trans-Ural region, Alexander Burutin mentioned that the downhole underground leaching seemed to be the most environmentally friendly and safe way of well flowback. Indeed, if we compare the downhole underground leaching with open or underground methods of mining, there are significant advantages. There is no change in the geological state of the subsoil, since excavation of ore mass is not performed. There are no subsidence and disturbances of the earth's surface, fausted ores and waste rocks, as well as tailing ponds. The natural radioactivity of the ore body remains deep beneath the earth.

Answering the questions of the participants of the Forum, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dalur, JSC, briefly told about the structure of three (Dalmatovskoye, Khokhlovskoye and Dobrovolnoye) uranium deposits in the Kurgan region. All of them are currently located in the riverbed, flowing 140 million years ago. The bottom and banks of the river are the crystalline rock foundation, which practically did not and does not pass any water, as well as other liquids. And right above the deposit is the layer of clay (brick type) with the thickness of 100-120 meters. Thus, uranium deposits are, in fact, completely isolated from aquifers. The bottom and sides are rock, and above you can find a hundred meters of impenetrable clay. "It also allows us to mention the minimization of the impact on the environment. The ground mining and processing complex do not have a negative impact due to the minimal wastes and production emissions, absence of dumps, while the process of downhole underground leaching does not lead to any negative impact due to the lack of any connection between the ore horizon and surface waters", Alexander Burutin said.
