The Temporary Service Bridge across the Vitim River Transferred to the Republic of Buryatia
In December last year, the bridge has been officially included in the public motor road of regional importance “Romanovka – Bagdarin” in the Bautonvsky Evenki district. On December 20, the Republic registered its ownership of this facility.
Let us remind that the bridge that connects the banks of the Vitim River, has been constructed in 2009. The decision on its construction was adopted by the heads of the Rosatom State Corporation. The first works were started in December 2008, and as soon as 6 months later, the contractors fulfilled all their obligations. The total cost of construction was about 200 million rubles.
To date, the bridge with a length of 233 meters and a width of more than 7 meters, features two-way traffic lanes, a walkway for pedestrians and lighting. Its load capacity of 62 tons allows for travel of any type of vehicles.
It is hard to overestimate the importance of this bridge for the companies that develop the nuclear industry in the Russian Federation and for two neighboring constituent entities of the Federation: the Transbaikal Territory and the Republic of Buryatia. In particular, it is used to transport cargoes for the needs of Khiagda, JSC, a company carrying out the pilot industrial development of the Khiagdinskoye uranium deposit. The commissioning of this bridge enhanced the reagents, fuels, and lubricants transportation safety and minimized the risk of their ingress in the water during the river crossing in the period of ice drift and freezing-over.
Besides, the road bridge partially solved the problem of the Northern delivery of goods to hard-to-reach settlements. Inhabitants of nearby villages, who have been waiting for this event for almost a century, highly appreciated the convenience of the new transport route. According to Natalya Khairova, the Head of the Vitimskoye rural settlement, in recent years, including thanks to the new bridge, the village has been greatly transformed. Let us remind that, previously, the connection across the Vitim River was possible only by a footbridge or by a ferry and an ice crossing of the river.
