ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. to Build a Plant in Krasnokamensk for Producing Granular Explosives

ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. (mining division of Rosatom State Corporation) will build its own plant in Krasnokamensk (Trans-Baikal Territory) for producing granular explosives (GE) for mining operations. The corresponding decision was made based on the results of testing the GE application technology, which took place within the framework of the business trip made by Vladimir Verkhovtsev, CEO of JSC Atomredmetzoloto, to Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union (PJSC PIMCU).

Participants of the meeting considered all project safety aspects in detail. Given the experience of PIMCU in the transportation, storage and use of explosives, it is safe to say that there are no such risks. In terms of environment, the impact is minimal.

Implementation of the project will start soon. Sergey Shurygin, CEO of PIMCU, commented as follows: “The payback period of the project is less than a year. Production of our own GE will significantly reduce our expenses and, consequently, the prime cost of metal”.

Moreover, reaching of the designed capacity of the underground uranium mine 8 and preparation for the implementation of the project for constructing mine 6 were also discussed during the visit of Vladimir Verkhovtsev.

Alexander Rabolt, Director of mine 8, reported that the unit reached its designed capacity in 2017. Mine indicators planned for the current year: 366.22 thousand tons of ore, 705.31 tons of metal. We shall recall that PIMCU planned to produce 1767.64 tons of uranium in 2017. Alexander Rabolt invited the leaders to the car interchange complex of 14-rash shaft, where a solemn event in the life of mine 8 took place: a 750,000-ton trolley with ore was risen to the surface. Vladimir Verkhovtsev said: “I would like to see us all gathered together in a few years and celebrating the rising of the first trolley at mine 6”.

At the mine 6 site, where preparation to start the construction of shaft water treatment plants and other infrastructure is underway, he attended the testing of equipment planned to be removed from storage at the beginning of construction. Mine hoist, winches, ropes and other equipment acquired and installed about 10 years ago demonstrated full adequacy and efficiency.

Within the framework of the business trip, the CEO of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. also met with Natalia Zhdanova, Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory. At the meeting, the issues of the implementation of the project “Krasnokamensk: Territory of Priority Social and Economic Development”, namely, the registration of PSEDA residents, were considered. In particular, the parties discussed the projects “Construction of a Special Cements’ Factory”, “Construction of a Timber Processing Complex” and “Construction of Integrated Hydrometallurgical Works”.
