First Stage of Engineering Surveys Completed on Pavlovskoe Deposit in the Arctic
JSC First Ore Mining Company (JSC FOMC), subsidiary of JSC Atomredmetzoloto has completed the first stage of the field season by summarizing the results of the first stage of engineering surveys on Pavlovskoe Deposit, which is located on the South Island of Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in Arkhangelsk Region.
To implement the planned engineering survey operations, aircraft and ships delivered to the site more than 20 pieces of equipment (drill rigs, bulldozers, off-road vehicles), 70 people of the field party, and all the necessary material and technical resources necessary for the plan of 2016. Over the 3 months of the field season, from July to October, geotechnical, surveying, hydrographic, meteorological, environmental surveys and seismic micro zoning were conducted, and samples for large-capacity semi-technological tests of ores on Pavlovskoe Deposit were collected.
After the first field season first deputy General Director of JSC First Ore Mining Company Igor Semenov presented awards on behalf of management of contractor companies to employees of JSC All-Russian R&D Institute of Industrial Technology (General Contractor), JSC RUSBURMASH, and JSC Eleron Federal Centre for Science and High Technologies and Special Scientific and Production Association for successful completion of all projects.
“Development of Pavlovskoe Deposit is of top priority for replenishment of the mineral resources base of our country and development of the Russian Arctic. We are proud of being a part of this strategic project, and we must work with dedication and efficiency,” Igor Semenov said.
Work on the deposit will continue in 2017. The second part of engineering surveys for designing and constructing the ore-dressing and processing enterprise at Pavlovskoe Lead and Zinc Ore Deposit will be completed in the coming year.
Pavlovskoe Lead and Zinc Ore Deposit is one of the largest in Russia. It is estimated to contain some 47.7 mln tons of ore. The First Ore Mining Company intends to build a mining enterprise on Novaya Zemlya with the output capacity of up to 3.5 mln tons of ore a year.
