VNIPIpromtekhnologii received two favorable conclusions for construction documents for the final radioactive waste isolation facility in Krasnoyarsk Krai
VNIPIpromtekhnologii received two favorable conclusions of FAA Glavgosexpertiza Russia for design and construction documents for the final radioactive waste isolation facilities in Krasnoyarsk Krai.
The project owner is FSUE National Radioactive Waste Management Operator (FSUE NO RAO). A unique research project to build final radioactive waste isolation facilities is implemented pursuant to RF Government Decree No. 1185 of 19.11.2012 in the vicinity of the closed town of Zheleznogorsk, in gneiss rocks of the Lower Kansky Massif. VNIPIpromtekhnologii won the tender and has been carrying out design and survey works since 2012.
"Today, thanks to coordinated efforts of highly qualified professionals, we can say that implementation of our design solutions will enable to bury the accumulated and newly formed 1st and 2nd hazard class radioactive waste in a safe, economically efficient and reliable manner from technical and technological point of view. Our experts employed unique radioactive waste management technologies when preparing the documentation, developed and used special safety justification methods for the proposed facility," - said the director of VNIPIpromtekhnologii Yuri Dmitrak.
The developed documentation was put to public hearings, as well as subjected to examination of regional environmental safety authorities, independent technology and price audit, industry expert examination and two expert procedures of SRC Rosnedra. All procedures resulted in favorable conclusions. With that, there is no doubt that placement of radioactive waste can be initiated only after thorough verification of long-term safety and public hearings are carried out and a license for industrial operation of the facility is obtained.
