JSC "VNIPIPromtechnologii" has started a preliminary analysis of works on design of the northernmost Russian mining enterprise for extraction and processing of lead-zinc ore

At present, JSC RUSBURMASH, an exploration company of the mining division of the State Corporation Rosatom, carries out exploration of Pavlovskoye field in the Yuzhny Island of Novaya Zemplya archipelago according to the order of JSC First Ore-Mining Company (subsidiary of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.). JSC "VNIPIPromtechnologii" shall become the general design engineer.

“The results of works performed by RUSBURMASH allowed to calculate reserves of lead-zinc ore, to obtain data on processing properties of ore, on hydrogeological and mine engineering conditions of deposit development. These data are the basis for design of the largest mining enterprise of the Arctic. Simply said, we can understand which facilities shall be constructed and where”, - explained the Director of JSC “VNIPIPromtechnologii” Yuri Dmitrak.

Pavlovskoye ore field itself is one of the largest polymetallic ore facilities of Bezimyanskoye ore cluster. Deposit region of 12 square km area adjoins the coast part of the Barents Sea and is located at the distance of 16-18 km from the deep water bay which is capable to admit sea-going vessels of 6-8 thous. tons displacement. The deposit part explored by drilling is located at the eastern flank of ore field and in its central part.

“Based on the existing data, it is provided to develop reserves using open pit mining with three open pits. Mechanisation of mining operations shall be unambiguously aimed at maximal use of equipment of home manufacture (excavators, trucks, drilling rigs). Facilities of the enterprise engineering infrastructure shall be designed in the closest free area near the open mining complex facilities”, - continued Yuri Dmitrak.

The main facilities at the site of the ore processing complex shall comprise a mill with productivity of .5 mln tons of hear ore per year, an autonomous cogeneration plant, a shift camp for 450 persons, a complex of administrative and utility buildings unified by common infrastructure. Port and dock-side facilities shall be located on the northern coast of the Bezymyannaya bay. In particular, these facilities shall comprise open transshipment warehouse, warehouses for fuel and lubricants and for liquified natural gas.

JSC “VNIPIPromtechnologii” has the plan for 2016 to perform survey works at the facility in one season together with JSC RUSBURMASH. 2017 shall be completely dedicated to design works for Pavlovskoye deposit facilities. Almost all sections, with the exception of port complex facilities, shall be performed by own efforts of JSC “VNIPIpromtekhnologii”.

Design documentation is planned to be sent to the General Board of State Expert Review at the end of 2017.

“Implementation of Pavlovskoye project, besides economic purposes of lead-zinc ore extraction and processing, facilitates solution of a number of important geopolitical problems of the Russian Federation. They comprise extension of presence in the Arctic, development of the northern territories, intensification of use of the Northern Sea Route. That’s why this facility is of high priority for us”, - mentioned the Director General of the mining arm of the State Corporation Rosatom Vladimir Verkhovtsev
