Work meeting between ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. Director General Vladimir Verkhovtsev and Governor of Republic of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn held in Moscow
In the Bauntovsky Evenkiysky District of the Republic of Buryatia, where JSC Khiagda operates, one of the largest mining projects for the development of natural uranium deposits within the Khiagdinskoye Ore Field is being implemented. More than 19 billion rubles has been invested in the development project so far.
Vladimir Verkhovtsev, Director General of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co., commented on the prospects of uranium mining in the Republic of Buryatia: “2014 probably became one of the most important years for JSC Khiagda. Construction of the main production building and other facilities on the central industrial site completed, including the first phase of the sulphuric plant with the design capacity of up to 110,000 tons per year. Launch of the in-house workshop will enable the enterprise to reduce haulage volume by a factor of three. Since now we will work towards a gradual increase of production volumes. While in 2014, JSC Khiagda mined 442 tons of uranium, in 2015, end-product production volumes must amount to 508 tons and by 2018, we plan to achieve the capacity level of 1,000 tons of uranium per annum.”
Currently, JSC Khiagda is preparing to construct infrastructure facilities within the Istochnoye and Vershinnoye Fields. Mining operations within the Istochnoye Field will commence in 2016 and within the Vershinnoye Field – in 2017.
The meeting also involved discussion on the issues of the development of fields within the Vitimskoye Uranium Ore Province, whose potential is estimated to exceed 340,000 tons of uranium, as well as receiving of state support for this investment project at the republican level.
Implementation of programmes for socio-economic development of the Bauntovsky Evenkiysky District of the Republic of Buryatia at the expense of the consolidated group of taxpayers (CGT) of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation was considered as well. These primarily include reconstruction of a motorway of republican significance running from the Trans-Baikal Territory border to Bagdarin settlement, as well as of bridgework. In particular, JSC Khiagda is ready to transfer to the Republic of Buryatia a bridge over the Vitim River in Romanovka settlement built out of the funds of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation.
Governor of the Republic of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn noted: “Our region is one of the richest entities of the Russian Federation in terms of natural resources. However, their extraction requires working under severe climatic, mining and geological conditions, which is only within the power of major corporations. From the viewpoint of the republic’s secure future it is especially important that all uranium mining operations are conducted by the most environmentally safe methods of in-situ leaching with the use of the most advanced technology. We realize the necessity of developing the infrastructure of the Bauntovsky Evenkiysky District and are fully committed to improving a transport network and a circular power supply flow diagram, as well as to implementing associated projects.”
The close cooperation is expected to continue. As soon as for early February, another work meeting is scheduled, where further collaboration is planned to be discussed in details.
