Commissioning tests of drying system for uranium compounds suspension (yellow cake) start at JSC Dalur main facility
The processing line was purchased from Susarny Praha s.r.o., based in Czech Republic, and the project was developed by JSC VNIPIpromtechnologii, operated by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. The equipment has been manufactured with account of JSC Dalur requirements to its installation in the existing production premises. The system mounting took a little over two months.
“In spite of specific nature of activity of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation’s mining arm, it’s safe to say that we are consumer-oriented like any other company. The end product is delivered to enterprises operated by JSC TVEL, a fuel producer for ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation. Moisture content in uranium compounds suspension that we were able to provide earlier equaled up to 30%. After implementation of this advanced drying technology moisture content will decrease to as low as 2%. Thus, we will not only reduce logistics costs but will also facilitate further processing,” explains Nikolay Poponin, JSC Dalur Director General.
First results of the tests have proved that the process flow is sustainable and safe. The use of front-edge filtration systems and a WS scouring machine fully rules out possible damage to the environment. Dry concentrate capacity of the new system will amount to 120 kg per hour, which corresponds to JSC Dalur production volumes, with account of higher development volumes at the Dalmatovskoye and Khokhlovskoye fields. The enterprise is planned to achieve uranium output of 600 tons of uranium per year.
Following the results of operation of the uranium compounds suspension drying line at JSC Dalur, ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. plans to examine the possibility of purchasing similar equipment for JSC Khiagda, which operates uranium deposits, located in the Bauntovsky District of the Republic of Buryatia, using the downhole in-situ leaching method.
