Krasnokamensk hosts ceremony to award winners of Startup of Your Business contest
On August 22 and 23, the city’s birthday was celebrated in Krasnokamensk, Trans-Baikal Territory.
A festive evening marking the city’s birthday was held on August 22. This event included the ceremony to award organizations and residents of Krasnokamensk, who have made the most significant contribution to the development of the city, its social and economic infrastructure. Representatives from the Government of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the City Administration participated in the official part of the event.
Among individuals, who distinguished themselves, winners of the Startup of Your Business contest were awarded on August 22 for the implementation of social entrepreneurship projects.
The programme for development of social entrepreneurship in Krasnokamensk has been elaborated and implemented by the regional Government, the Trans-Baikal Territory Development Foundation, the Regional Social Programme Foundation “Nashe Budusheye” (“Our Future”) and the City Administration under the support from ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. (JSC Atomredmetzoloto). In June, the Startup of Your Business contest was held under the motto “To One’s Advantage and for the Benefit of the City.” Krasnokamensk residents had an opportunity to file a proposal with the City Administration to fulfill a project for the enhancement of living standards and social environment in the city. Following the contest results, twenty one projects received support in the form of grants. Currently, contracts for awarding grants in the amount of 50,000 roubles are being concluded with the winners. Such private services as domestic cleaning, babysitting service “Nyanya” (“Nanny”), infants’ club “Mama i Malysh” (“Mother and Child”), a mini-bakery, an apiary, a joinery shop and other necessary firms will soon appear in Krasnokamensk. Along with the contest aimed to drive business activity, the city also hosted an Exposition of Social Ideas featuring successful social projects that have already been operated. City residents, who are reflecting on the possibility to establish their own businesses, visited express training sessions, webinars, workshops and networking venues.
Projects to open a children’s café “Sladkoezhka” (“Sweet Tooth”) by Margarita Savykina and a shop offering child development and creativity items “Oranzhevyi Slon” (“Orange Elephant”) by Anton Burdinskiy were recognized the best ones. Their victory was not only due to perfectly elaborated business plans. Additional marks were also assigned for the focus on children and for the creation of new jobs in the city.
Handing out awards to the winners, Marina Liborakina, Deputy Director General for Strategy and Business Development of JSC Atomredmetzoloto, noted a high significance of social entrepreneurship for the development of territories and also highlighted the contribution that entrepreneurs of the new generation are able to make in ensuring economic sustainability of the Russian regions.
On August 23, during the second day, devoted to the celebration of Krasnokamensk 45th Anniversary, a people’s festival was held in the city. Guests of the festive events were invited to visit “The Boulevard of Good Cheer,” which was composed of quarters dedicated to various topics (e.g. Sports, Education, Culture, etc.). Within the frameworks of the Culture and Recreation section, the festival guests could familiarize themselves with the Chernikovy’s Workshop, a social entrepreneurship project supported by the Regional Social Programme Foundation “Nashe Budusheye.” Guests of the Workshop had an opportunity to see products made by the Chernikovy according to state-of-the-art, accurately selected designs and to participate in training sessions to learn know-hows of old-time crafts.
On August 23, visitors to “The Boulevard of Good Cheer” could also be provided with a detailed consultation on social entrepreneurship.
