JSC PIMCU Prevented Threat of Flooding in Krasnokamensk
On October 31, Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union (JSC PIMCU) operated by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. (JSC Atomredmetzoloto) completed construction of the first by-pass channel between the system of the Lakes Umykei and the Lake Har Nuur.
Length of the channel will amount to more than 2,800 metres. It is located in 20 kilometres to the south-west of Krasnokamensk (the Trans-Baikal Territory), for which JSC PIMCU is a city-forming enterprise. The main aim of this structure is to prevent flooding in Krasnokamensk and the neighbouring living settlements. All major works on the channel creation were carried out at the own expense of JSC PIMCU.
Vitaliy Yevdokimov, head of Department for Consolidation, JSC Atomredmetzoloto, explained that strong and long-lasting rainfalls in the Trans-Baikal Territory this year caused overflow of the Lakes Umykei and created threat of flooding in Krasnokamensk. He says that thanks to the channel construction, water in the Lakes Umykei, when reaching a critical level, will overflow and run to the Lake Har Nuur, which will allow to prevent accidents, associated with floods.
