Uranium One Rewarded for Corporate Social Responsibility Projects in Tanzania
On August 27, 2013, corporate social responsibility projects implemented by Uranium One Inc. (with the controlling stake owned by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.) in the United Republic of Tanzania were rewarded at a ceremony organized by the national Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Extractive Industries Stakeholders Forum. The company’s initiatives received the highest rewards in such categories as Education, Health, and Employment. Uranium One also came in second place in the overall standings among companies operating in Tanzania whose projects are at the exploration stage.
Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete presented the award to Mantra Tanzania's Managing Director Asa Mwaipopo. A number of officials, members of the Tanzanian Parliament, as well as representatives from mining companies operating in the country were present at the high-profile ceremony.
«As part of developing the Mkuju River Project, Uranium One is implementing a range of activities in the area of corporate social responsibility,» noted Vadim Jivov, President of Uranium One Inc. «Along with initiatives that have already earned well-deserved recognition, we are planning to increase our cooperation with Tanzanian authorities to help combat poaching in the territory of the Selous Game Reserve, which is located near our future production facilities. »
Uranium One Inc. is the operator of the Mkuju River Project in Tanzania with a mineral resource base of about 45.9 thousand tons of uranium.
