«Uranium Capital» of Russia Has Become Venue of Film Festival
As part of the VIII Zabaikalsky International Film Festival in Krasnokamensk, competition films were shown and a meet-the-artist event with the People’s Artist of the RSFSR Alexander Mikhailov was held. «Uranium Capital» of Russia has become one of the film festival venues due to the ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation Mining Division (Atomredmetzoloto, JSC/ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.) sponsorship. «It was due to the cooperation with ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. and the Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union that we were able to hold film screenings and meetings with artists in almost all major cities in the Trans-Baikal Territory,» said Alexander Mikhailov, President of the Festival, during a meet-the-artist event with Krasnokamensk residents. Before the meeting, excerpts from films where Alexander Mikhailov played the main characters were shown on the screen: «Lyubov i golubi» («Love and Doves»), «Muzhiki!» («Men!»), «Odinokim predostavlyaetsya obshchezhitiye» («Offered for Singles»), «Ocharovannyy strannik» («The Enchanted Wanderer»). The audience greeted the People’s Artist with stormy applause. Sincere, real, talented, patriotic — they rewarded him with such epithets after the intercourse. Alexander Yakovlevich was born in 1944 in the village of Tsugol, Mogoytuysky District, Chita Region. For more than two hours he performed songs and poems. Alexander Mikhailov sang «Ot geroyev bylykh vremen» («From the heroes of bygone days») (from the movie «Ofitsery» («Officers»)), «V dome moyem» («In my house»), «Tam, za tumanami» («There behind the mists»), «Kon voronoy» («Black horse»), «Metel» («Snowstorm»), etc. Whatever the guest of Krasnokamensk would say, his speech was filled with love for the Motherland, for his small motherland and family. «Whatever the situation, no matter what happens, you need to love life, not to get sour. Love conquers a lot,» he said.
The actor carried love to the sea throughout his life. And it began with the «The Ninth Wave» painting, which he saw in the «Ogoniok» magazine. Twice he ran away from home as a child in order to get a free-ride to the Nakhimov Naval School in Leningrad. Later, he fulfilled his dream, for two years he plied the seas and oceans as a member of the fishing vessel crew. But the love of art, the theater, the cinema still won. It was the cinema that made Alexander Mikhailov famous throughout the country — he starred in more than 80 motion pictures. His favorite role is Ivan Flyagin from the movie «Ocharovannyy strannik» («The Enchanted Wanderer») and the most memorable work is with Lyudmila Gurchenko during the filming of «Lyubov i golubi» («Love and Doves»). At parting, the audience rewarded the guest with a standing ovation. As a souvenir from grateful Krasnokamensk residents, the Head of the city, Yuri Didenko, and the Head of the district, Alexey Zammoyev, presented the guest with a clay figurine of a Pallas’s cat (manul), a symbol of Krasnokamensk, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and books published in the anniversary year.
During the film festival, the Dauria Palace of Culture in Krasnokamensk also screened the festival feature films «Girls Don’t Cry» (directed by Takehiro Shindo, Japan) and «Wildwitch» (directed by Kaspar Munk, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, Czech Republic). «In order for the „Uranium Capital“ to be in the center of the country’s cultural life, several years ago we created a modern cinema in the Dauria Palace of Culture that is capable of showing films in 3D. The novelties of domestic and foreign cinema are demonstrated in this beautiful cinema hall. Now the film festival came here as well. Residents of Krasnokamensk and other cities in the region have the opportunity of direct contact with modern domestic cinema culture,» said Alexander Burutin, Deputy Director General for Strategy, Atomredmetzoloto, JSC.
