In Memory of Boris Zubarev
We regret to inform you that Boris Matveyevich Zubarev — an honored geologist of the Russian Federation, veteran of the Great Patriotic War, founder and first Director General of The First Ore Mining Company, JSC — has passed away at the age of 99. Boris Matveyevich was born in 1921. At the end of the ninth grade, he volunteered for the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, where he served until 1946. Later the destiny has linked his life with geology. He graduated from the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute, in 1950 he headed a detachment of the geological party to search for diamonds, and in 1951 he investigated his first and the largest deposit of magnesites in the world, Savinskoye. This outstanding man devoted his entire life to geology, devoutly and selflessly serving the affair of his life as part of numerous geological expeditions, and in high government positions. For more than 10 years, Boris Matveyevich worked as the first Deputy Minister of Geology of the USSR. Its contribution to the formation of the domestic raw material base is difficult to overestimate: for many years its achievements will be in demand by the geological community and the domestic industry.
Even being on a well-deserved vacation, Boris Matveyevich arranged activities on the exploration of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago as part of a Polar marine exploration expedition under his direct supervision, Pavlovskoye polymetallic deposit was discovered. Boris Matveyevich became the first head of The First Ore Mining Company, JSC, which started development of the field. It was he who launched the Pavlovsk project in 1998, which is now the largest one in the portfolio of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. Until his last days, Boris Matveyevich did not part with his favorite work and the last project of his life, remaining an assistant to the Director General of the company he established.
A true symbol of the era, Boris Matveyevich will remain in the memory of this generation as a creator and a patriot of his homeland, a brilliant organizer, a far-sighted strategist, a man loyal to his duty and the chosen path.
Three times winner of the USSR State prize, he has won numerous awards for excellence in production and state activities, including the order IV class «For Merit to the Fatherland».
