Pavlovskoye Field Became Part of Strategy for Developing Russian Arctic Zone and Ensuring National Security until 2035

The corresponding Executive Order was signed by the President of the Russian Federation on October 26, 2020.
The development of a lead-zinc mineral resource center on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago has become the main direction for the implementation of the state strategy in the Arkhangelsk region. Along with the modernization of the regional center seaport, the development of transport infrastructure and shipbuilding industry, the strategy involves the development of the northern territories through subsoil use.
The Pavlovskoye project, which includes the plans to build a mining and processing plant for the production of lead and zinc concentrates, is being implemented by the First Ore Mining Company, JSC (subsidiary of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Mining Division of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation). Currently, geological exploration of the field has been carried out, the lead and zinc reserves have been put on the state balance sheet, engineering and survey work and the mining and processing plant design, including infrastructure facilities and seaport, have been completed.
Last week, the State Commission for Arctic Development supported the project at the state level and approved a subsidy of RUB 7 billion for the construction of infrastructure facilities: roads, water supply system, helipad, etc.
«The development of the northern territories is a large-scale task set by the President of our country for business, science and government. By investing in Novaya Zemlya, we solve several problems: create highly demanded competitive products manufactured using the state-of-the-art environmentally friendly technologies and develop a comfortable environment for human life in high latitudes. According to the design specifications, Pavlovskoye will become one of the largest producers of lead and zinc in Russia,» said Igor Semenov, Executive Director of the First Ore Mining Company, JSC.
