The cooperation agreement was signed between Atomredmetzoloto, JSC (ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. / Mining Division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation) and the Republic of Sakha Yakutia for the amplification of the North: Area of Sustainable Development Scientific and Educational Center.
The instrument was signed by Vladimir Verkhovtsev, Director General of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co., and Aisen Nikolayev, Governor of the Republic of Sakha, at their meeting in the Yakutian representative office in Moscow.
The agreement has cemented the parties’ intentions to ensure arrangements for world-class research and development, elaboration and implementation of cutting-edge competitive technologies and products together with staff training that would boost the industry, science and technologies in the Republic of Sakha. Having extensive resources and practical experience in implementing large-scale extraction projects in Russia, ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. acted as an industrial partner to the Scientific & Educational Center (SEC). In particular, the Republic of Buryatia has launched the world’s first-ever digital uranium mining enterprise, while the Kurgan region is a producer of high-tech products, such as aluminum-scandium alloys and scandium oxide. The Republic of Sakha based subsidiary of Elkon MMP, JSC is making preparations to start developing the Severnoye gold deposit and also is a holder of the licenses for the Elkon deposit, one of the largest uranium deposits in the world.
«Development of the Arctic region is a national goal, which encompasses the government agencies and the business environment. ARMZ is engaged in rare earth metals and solid minerals mining, with a particular focus on science and competitive technology. The agreement is undoubtedly a step forward in the implementation of high-tech investment projects pertaining to the extraction of Yakutia’s mineral resources,» said Vladimir Verkhovtsev. The company’s representatives will be members of the SEC Supervisory Board; the agreement also provides for sharing knowledge, joint scientific, educational and innovative projects, technical assistance and advice.
Aisen Nikolayev, Governor of the Republic of Sakha, said that: «Science is the course, which has now been the focus of special attention both for the government and businesses. The North SEC was originally created in order to accumulate the scientific potential of the Far East and to implement projects that will result in a real effect to drive economic growth and fundamentally improve the standard of living. The agreement we have signed today is a significant contribution to the advanced development of our promising macro-region.»
The North SEC was established in September 2019 under the national project for science to accumulate the scientific potential of the Far East and implement projects that would produce a real economic effect and fundamentally change the quality of life in the macro-region for the better. It is also to be a top-notch academic and research platform to cover the four Far Eastern regions of Yakutia, Magadan, Chukotka, and Kamchatka. It encompasses eleven research centers, five universities, and development institutions, with already established partnerships with some overseas universities and research organizations, plus some industry partners: those companies that promote business and invest in the Arctic and Far Eastern regions, such as ALROSA (PJSC), Prognoz, JSC, Vostok Engineering, LLC, CC Kolmar, LLC, Seligdar, PJSC, Lena United River Shipping Company, JSC, and other companies operating in the real economy.
