ARMZ Mining Machinery and RENERA Signed Contract for Li-Ion Batteries to Be Manufactured by Rosatom

ARMZ Mining Machinery, LLC (managed by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Mining Division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation) and RENERA LLC, Rosatom’s industry integrator in energy storage systems (part of TVEL Fuel Company), entered into a contract to develop and supply lithium-ion batteries for ARGO load-haul-dumpers (LHDs).
ARMZ Mining Machinery, LLC is engaged in the manufacture, repair and maintenance of the domestic brand mining equipment for ARGO LHDs. The contract is signed by Igor Semenov, Chairman of the Board, ARMZ Mining Machinery, LLC, and Emin Askerov, Director General, RENERA LLC. The debut battery pilot is expected to come by the year end of 2021, this followed by a test series, with at least seven traction battery packs to be delivered in 2022.
Igor Semenov explains that ARGO LHDs are currently powered by batteries manufactured by non-Russian companies, thus, driving up the cost of the final products. «Given the expertise of RENERA LLC, we decided to start producing domestic lithium-ion batteries; they will reduce the cost of the load-haul-dumpers for the end user and provide warranty service and after-sales support locally, on the one hand, while offering superior technical features, on the other hand,» he added.
«RENERA’s energy storage systems for AGRO have a larger capacity as compared with the original brand-name products; with our new engineering solution, machinery powered by the batteries can work longer and carry more loads. The lithium-ion batteries used in mining equipment will help significantly cut those operating costs that relate to the fleet and mine ventilation, streamline the infrastructure and, most importantly, mitigate the negative impact on both, the health of workers and the environment,» said Emin Askerov.
