Khiagda Preparing Development of Kolichikan Uranium Deposit
Kolichikan is the fourth deposit of the Khiagda ore field to be developed by the Company. The Khiagda ore field includes eight deposits in total: Khiagda, Istochnoye, Vershinnoye, Tetrakh, Dybryn, Namaru, Koretkonda, and Kolichikan. Currently, works at Khiagda, Istochnoye, and Vershinnoye deposits are at various operational stages.
The first well was drilled at Kolichikan today. Petr Menshikov, a foreman of the Drilling Site No. 3 of RUSBURMASH, JSC, says: «The temperature about minus 20 is optimal for us; we’re not cold. The planned job will be completed on time.» Drilling operations and construction of facilities at the deposit are carried out by this specialized company of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. In 2021, it is planned to drill 200 wells at the Kolichikan deposit.
The technical design for the development of Kolichikan was approved by the Central Board for the Development of Solid Mineral Deposits of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation (CBD-SMD of Rosnedra). In line with the approved project design, the extraction will be carried out using the in-situ leaching (ISL) method. Residents of the Bauntovsky-Evenki District of Buryatia approved the development plans of Khiagda, JSC, in particular, the construction and operation of the facility «In-Situ Leaching Site at the Kolichikan Deposit», at public hearings held in the village of Romanovka.
The infrastructure for mining operations at the Kolichikan deposit is located within the boundaries of the licensed areas for the two deposits: Istochnoye and Kolichikan. Today, the Company is creating facilities within the boundaries of the Istochnoye deposit — an access road, power lines, trunk pipelines, and intermediate storage ponds for product solutions. The construction of main infrastructure facilities and drilling operations will be completed in 2022. The first metal is planned to be produced by the end of next year.
Evgeny Gurulev, First Deputy Director General and Chief Engineer of Khiagda, JSC, explained that «The planned commissioning of the deposit is provided for by the Company’s development strategy. At the Istochnoye deposit, we are completing the vein, and for the local sorption plant not to stand idle, solutions will be sent to it from the Kolichikan deposit.»
