JSC Khiagda started development of the Kolichkanskoye deposit in Buryatia ahead of schedule
Khiagda, JSC (part of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Rosatom Mining Division) has started uranium mining at the Kolichikan deposit in the Bauntovsky-Evenki District of Buryatia ahead of schedule.
The deposit was prepared for exploitation by RUSBURMASH, JSC (exploration and drilling experts, part of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.). At four blocks, 190 wells were drilled, and built the following infrastructure facilities: power lines, main pipelines, intermediate storage ponds for product solutions. The work was carried out in the extremely difficult mining and geological permafrost conditions.
The deposit preparation time for exploitation was reduced by 40% due to the use of tools provided by ROSATOM Production System (RPS). During the deposit preparation for production, the following RPS projects were implemented: «Reducing Construction Time for Deposit Infrastructure» and «Improving Drilling Productivity.» According to Gleb Nosyrev, Director General of RUSBURMASH, JSC, «Drilling a production well at a uranium mining site is a whole range of operations: relocation and installation of drilling rigs, pilot drilling, reaming operations, followed by the well construction and development. We looked for what could be improved in each operation, analyzed where we had any downtime, thought about how it could be eliminated, and refined the work methods — hence the result».
The engineering project for the Kolichikan deposit development was approved by the Central Commission for the Development of Solid Mineral Deposits of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation (CKR-TPI Rosnedr). Infrastructure facilities for mining operations at the Kolichikan deposit are located within the boundary of licenses for two deposits: Istochnoye and Kolichikan. Evgeny Gurulev, First Deputy Director General and Chief Engineer of Khiagda, JSC, explained that «At the Istochnoye deposit, we are completing to develop a bank of ore; therefore, to avoid downtime of the local sorption plant, solutions will be sent to it from Kolichikan».
Currently, drilling has been launched on three more Kolichikan blocks with 264 wells to be drilled there. RUSBURMASH, JSC has set itself the ambitious goal of completing all work 50% ahead of schedule by the end of May 2022.
