Digitalization Allowed Increasing Life of Dalmatovskoye Uranium Deposit (Kurgan Region)
Digitalization allowed Dalur, JSC (managed by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Rosatom Mining Division) to have a several years increase in the mining life of the Dalmatovskoye uranium deposit of the Trans-Ural uranium ore area in the Kurgan Region.
Digital technology for managing the uranium deposit mining using the in-situ leaching (ISL) method has been introduced at the Company since 2021. The project is implemented by experts of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. in cooperation with researchers of the Seversk Technological Institute of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (STI of the NRNU MEPhI) as part of the single digital strategy of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation.
At the Dalmatovskoye deposit, researchers of STI of the NRNU MEPhI conducted geotechnological digital simulation of promising areas at mining sites as part of supporting the information system of the mining facilities. According to Dinis Ezhurov, Director General of Dalur, JSC: «We could identify and evaluate the additional volume of the uranium reserve localization. Based on the data obtained, we have developed an action plan to improve mining efficiency. The implementation of this plan will allow extending the mining period of the Dalmatovskoye deposit by 3 to 5 years with extracting additional volumes of the strategic metal for ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation.»
Digital tools of «Smart ISL Site» allow the Company to reliably assess mining and geological situation in the developed deposit areas, simulate mining options, accurately analyze the work performed, promptly make decisions when analyzing and forecasting the deposit development, carry out geological simulation and planning. All technological processes are controlled from the main control room. The operator sees on the monitor all the processes occurring at the local sorption plant and at the ISL site. Kamol Kadyrov, First Deputy Director General and Production Director of Dalur, JSC, explained: «We can see the site structures, that is, wells and hookup; we see the volume of the drilling fluid supplied downhole and brought to the surface. This means that we can now control the method at a depth of 500 m and, if necessary, simulate the processes occurring in the ore body».
«Smart ISL Site» is also employed at the Khokhlovskoye deposit in the Shumikha District, Kurgan Region. The system helps the Company to forecast and timely implement repair and restoration work, therefore reducing the maintenance cost of mining facilities. Geotechnological data makes it possible to calculate and maintain the optimal mining modes of production blocks. This ensures both environmental safety and economic efficiency of operations, which is very important for the Company.
In the future, «Smart ISL Site» options will be replicated to the Dobrovolnoye deposit in the Zverinogolovsky District, Kurgan Region, where the construction of a pilot plant is currently underway.
