ARMZ Mining Machinery and Zyfra Robotics Agreed to Create First Arctic Site for Pilot Joint Development of Robotic Technologies
April 26, at the Mining Leaders Forum, Zyfra Robotics (part of Zyfra Group, VEB Ventures) and ARMZ Mining Machinery, LLC (Mining Division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation) solemnly signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
The parties plan to jointly develop technologies enabling operation of robotic mining equipment in extreme conditions of the Arctic and to trial them on a specialized training site, which would be deployed at the Pavlovskoye lead-zinc field, the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, whose development was included in the National Arctic Strategy. «This is a unique project for our company allowing us to improve expertise in the field of robotics, which in the future could provide the impetus to the development of unmanned production in adverse weather conditions. We will combine our expertise in the development and implementation of solutions for remote control and autonomous operation of mining equipment,» said Igor Semenov, Chairman of the Board, ARMZ Mining Machinery, LLC.
«We are talking about the first training site in the Arctic, where we will trial autonomous vehicles. Our key goal is to try out our technology in conditions of extremely low temperatures, thick fogs and heavy snowfalls, which prove a stumbling block for autonomous transport sensors. In fact, we plan to arrange transportation of the removed overburden with three dump trucks, excavators and other auxiliary equipment,» Alexey Yakovenko, CEO at Zyfra Robotics, explained in details.
The companies said that they would start their trials at the end of 2022.
As part of the agreement, the parties will share information about new capabilities and technologies and consult each other with the view of assessing and analyzing new projects.
The agreement is in line with the statements made by the President of Russia about the need to continue the development of the Arctic zone. In April 2022, Vladimir Putin insisted that the Arctic projects would not be further delayed because of the geopolitical situation.
