RUSBURMASH Thrice Reduced Time for Preparing Reserve Development at Uranium Deposits
RUSBURMASH, JSC (specialized company of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Rosatom Mining Division) has reduced three times the period for preparing the development of reserves at uranium deposits. This was helped by implementing the industry order «Reducing Time of Production Processes in the Construction of Process Facilities» as part of Rosatom Production System (RPS).
Gleb Nosyrev, Director General of RUSBURMASH, JSC: «We implemented the industry order in three years. First, we identified problems and risks in all operations, mapped the design and construction processes, and trained the staff in RPS engineering standards. Then, we introduced improvements at every stage. Our implementation of this project demonstrated again that RPS is really an efficient tool for solving production tasks.» It is important that most improvements have been suggested and implemented by employees themselves. Thus, pipe opening processing method has been changed at the construction and installation site. Previously, openings were burnt out; now, they are drilled. This made it possible to reduce the processing time per opening by 5.2 minutes. According to Alexey Kuznetsov, the RPS Project Manager at RUSBURMASH, JSC: «You would say, this is just a quite a small change; but if you consider that there are at least seven such operations in the hookup of each well, it makes more than half an hour. And if you multiply it by hundred wells at the field, the time saving will exceed 48 hours. The same can be said of each improvement. Our people understand the key task of the present day: enhancing the performance and reducing the costs. Development and implementation of each project, even the smallest one, is very interesting and exciting for everyone who cares about the production and wants to make it better».
Drilling rigs used for building production wells have been converted to be electrically powered. Previously, diesel generator sets were used for power supply. Therefore, the new method not only saves production costs, but also minimizes the emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air.
The labor productivity in drilling operations has been increased by 123.5%; in soldering operations, by 125%; in the construction and installation works, by 120%; in the installation of overhead power transmission towers, by 111.1%. Creating a new warehouse system has allowed reducing the commodities and materials transportation costs by RUB 785 thousand per year.
All these small victories and the reduction in the process running time have allowed to achieve the main result: reducing three times the preparation period of reserves for the development. RUSBURMASH, JSC has already helped to start developing uranium deposits in the Kurgan Region and the Republic of Buryatia ahead of schedule to the benefit of Dalur, JSC and Khiagda, JSC, another two companies controlled by ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. In this way, Rosatom Mining Division can reduce the prime cost of its finished products.
