Khiada arranged for planting seven hundred thousand trees in the Republic of Buryatia for compensatory afforestation
The uranium producer helps Buryatia to restore the forests after wildfires.
They planted pine seedlings in two land plots with a total area of 173.2 hectares in the Zaigraevsky and Mukhorshibirsky districts. Foresters will take care of the young trees — for a decade, they will plow firebreaks to control burns and, if necessary, add more artificial stands. «These plots will not be accounted as stocked forest lands until 2032. And it is only after 120 years that the wood will reach the exploitability age,» said Vitaly Gonin, Deputy Director, Zaigraevsky Forestry Farm.
The enterprise’s volunteers also took part in the forestation. They planted about four hundred pines and checked the areas where pine seedlings had been planted earlier.
«Khiada, JSC is an environmentally friendly Company. We do comply with the environmental laws. This year, in addition to planting stands, we plan to release more than 160 thousand juvenile Thymallus in the Ina River in the Republic of Buryatia,» said Anton Lobanov, Head of the Environmental Protection Department.
In the fall, the Company will plant another 128 thousand trees in the Republic of Buryatia.
These measures are part of compensatory afforestation. It should be reminded that Khiada, JSC is currently performing varied-phase operations at the Khiagda, Istochnoye and Kolichikan deposits, the Bauntovsky-Evenki District, in harsh climatic conditions of the eternal permafrost.
